Along with visionary staff, residents, and leaders, I helped to build Downtown Scottsdale and was contracted to develop conceptual design for the Arizona Canal. Like other urban focal points we love, Downtown Scottsdale invites visitors to explore and become part of a special place. Over time, these spaces evolve with the people, creating unique personal senses of place.
My work as an urban designer greatly influences my love for urban places. Grand Avenue is a fascinating place for both its culture and its physical environment. It has an impressive stock of turn-of-the-century buildings including a car dealership designed by architect Victor Gruen. Perhaps the most important of all urban places are the individual neighborhoods where residents lovingly restore mid-century homes and other historic buildings and landscapes. They are defining communities in ways that are new and different.
This portfolio of urban themed paintings and drawings is inspired by my love of finding the distinct characters in the places around the city I call home.
